At Harwood Meadows we work in partnership with ‘Class Act’, a specialist drama provider, to deliver sessions to children across the school. Each year, 5 of our 8 classes receive specialist drama tuition which complements our core curriculum.
Drama provides children with a unique and engaging way to explore ideas, express themselves, and develop essential life skills. Through imaginative play, role-play, and performance, pupils gain confidence in speaking and listening, learn to work collaboratively, and develop empathy by seeing the world from different perspectives.
The teaching of drama supports key areas of learning across the curriculum. It enhances literacy by encouraging storytelling, vocabulary development, and understanding of narrative structure. It also strengthens communication skills, helping children articulate their thoughts clearly and respond thoughtfully to others. Beyond academic benefits, drama nurtures creativity and resilience, allowing pupils to take risks in a safe and supportive environment.
Importantly, drama contributes to pupils’ personal, social, and emotional development. It encourages self-awareness, builds confidence, and fosters respect for different viewpoints and experiences. By participating in drama activities, children learn to reflect, evaluate, and grow, both as individuals and as members of a community.
At Harwood Meadows, drama is not just about performance—it is about giving every child a voice, inspiring imagination, and equipping them with skills that will support them throughout their education and beyond. All children participate in a Christmas performance, class assemblies and a Year 6 leavers production.
